The Momoyama culture, famed for its opulent gold screens and luxurious artifacts, finds its roots in the Muromachi period. Before the transformation of aesthetic sensibilities in the 16th century, cultural pursuits were primarily shaped by rituals and prestige, firmly anchored around the Emperor and the court. However, the tides shifted during the tumultuous civil wars, as the Sengoku daimyo rose to prominence. Following the Onin War, the court's influence faded, and the military class took the reins, redefining the cultural landscape.
